Please note the Environment Agency (EA) have agreed licenses for the “undergrounding” of power cables by UK Power along the North West river bank at Potter Heigham.

Work commences in October and updates will be posted as and when recieved.

Norfolk County Council is proposing to reduce the budget for the mobile library service by £200,000 – this is nearly half of the existing budget of £422,000.  To make this saving they now have to find ways to run the mobile library service in a different way and potentially reduce the number of routes.

To do this they have launched a consultation to find out how residents’ use the mobile libraries, how much they value the service and what elements of the service could change.

Notice is hereby given that there is a vacancy on Potter Heigham Parish Council. The vacancy has previously been advertised, and no election has been requested. The Council is now able to fill the vacancy by co-option.

Applicants should note that Councillors are expected to attend regular monthly meetings on the second Wednesday of each month and any additional meetings as may be arranged, and to represent the electors of Potter Heigham in raising and discussing those issues of interest and concern on which the Parish Council is empowered to act. Applicants should also note that membership of the Council is open to electors:

• Whose residents is in Potter Heigham or within three miles of Potter Heigham, or
• Whose principal place of work is in Potter Heigham and
• who is not disqualified (by reason of a criminal record, bankruptcy or involvement in corrupt practices).

It has come to the attention of the Potter Heigham Trust that there is a rumour in the Village stating that the Trust is no longer active.  This is not true.  The Potter Heigham Trust is extremely well managed and continues to fulfil its responsibility of supporting the community and those in need in the Parish.

Serco, working with North Norfolk District Council are changing household waste and recycling collections across North Norfolk to improve bin collection routes, reducing the distances bin trucks are travelling and accommodating new homes in the area.

These changes will be introduced from Monday, September 5 and will mean that over 90% of households in North Norfolk will see a change to the day or week that their household waste and recycling bin is collected.

Residents whose collection day remains unchanged are likely to have a change to their collection time, so it is important that bins are put out by 7:00am.

Between August 8 and 30, Serco will be sending out a leaflet to all North Norfolk District Council households to advise of any changes to their existing household waste and recycling service. Once you have received your leaflet, if you have any questions, please read the FAQs webpage.

Waste and recycling bins will continue to be collected on an alternating weekly basis and people with a garden waste subscription will not see this service change.

There will be no collection day changes at this stage for customers with a brown bin as part of the Garden Waste Collection Service, so please continue to put your brown bin out on the day you currently have it collected.

“I would like to thank my North Norfolk team for all their help with the planning and scheduling of these changes. Which will mean a more even distribution of workload for them moving forward.

“Please check your leaflet, or the website, to confirm how these changes will affect you and remember to put your bin out by 7:00am on your new collection day.”

Cllr. Nigel Lloyd, portfolio holder for Environmental Services, Climate Change and Environment, said:

“North Norfolk has seen a great deal of growth over the past decade. Providing an efficient waste collection service has become an increasingly complex task given the largely rural nature of our district and the large number of new homes being built in different locations.

“The Council’s aim is to provide a reliable waste collection service to all our residents that are delivered in the most efficient way possible. Serco identified that a full review of our waste collection services across the whole district was necessary in order to optimise the service. That work has now been completed and a new collection rota has been developed that will be implemented in September.

“The changes will allow us to streamline the waste collection process and make service more efficient by lowering fuel costs whilst introducing environmental benefits, including reduced emissions and a lower carbon footprint. The new routes will maximise the productivity of our vehicles and the collection operatives by reducing the multiple inefficient small routes across our district, which will ultimately result in less mileage and lower maintenance costs.

“Residents are strongly advised to take note of the literature you will soon receive, our web portal and social media posts to check if there will be changes to collection days/times for their household.”

Notice is hereby given that a casual vacancy has arisen in the Office of Councillor for the Parish Council.

If by 25 August, 2022 (14 days excluding Dies Non, after the date of this notice) a request for an election to fill said vacancy is made in writing to the Returning Officer at the address below by TEN electors for the said Parish, an election will be held to fill the said vacancy, otherwise the vacancy will be filled by co-option.

Where a written request for an election is being made, the signatures of the ten electors should be accompanied by the printed names and addresses, so that the Proper Officer can check the validity of the request.

If an election is called, it will take place not later than 28 October, 2022.

If an election is not requested, the Parish Council will fill this vacancy by co-option.

The Norfolk Fire & Rescue Service has issued advice regarding fire safety in the county because of the heatwave, rising temperatures and dry conditions. Due to these conditions, the risk of open and wildfires is very high.

Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service has issued the following advice:

• We encourage you not to light open fires such as BBQs, bonfires and campfires on or near dry grass or woodlands
• We recommend that you do not light a BBQ at home – however, if you do, ensure that you put the BBQ over flat non-flammable ground and keep it away from fences, trees, shrubs and sheds
• Keep a bucket of water or hose pipe close to your BBQ in case of an emergency
• Never leave a BBQ unattended and ensure the ashes are cold before disposing of the BBQ
• If your BBQ is gas, please ensure it is in good working order
• Please dispose of all your litter responsibly, as wildfires can be started by throwing a cigarette out of a car window or leaving a glass bottle on the ground
• We encourage visitors to stay alert for anyone starting a fire deliberately and should report any suspicious behaviour to the police immediately
• Act responsibly and take safety precautions around water
• Be aware that swimming in a river, lake or ocean is different from swimming in a pool – there are currents, changing conditions and submerged hazards
• Never swim in a quarry; the water is very cold and sudden exposure could put you into shock and reduce your ability to swim
• We encourage you to swim at lifeguarded beaches and between the red and yellow flags. You should also check the water before entering and check for hazards
