Norfolk’s Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC), Giles Orpen-Smellie has launched his Police Budget Consultation. Residents of Norfolk are being asked if the PCC should increase the police precept of council tax for the coming year. Having discussed funding with the Chief Constable Paul Sanford, Giles is seeking the community’s support for a precept rise of 5.2%. Based on a 5.2% increase, a Band D property would pay an extra £14.94 or 29 pence per week and a Band B property would pay £11.62 a year or 22 pence a week.

Printed copies of the survey and consultation documents are also available and can be requested by contacting the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner for Norfolk (OPCCN).

Don’t panic, help is at hand. The most important thing is don’t hide your head in the sand. Talk to someone and see if you can work something out.

Avoid loan sharks! It may seem tempting to take out a short-term unregulated loan to get you out of a fix, but this can lead to huge problems down the line, including violence and intimidation and paying back many times what you borrow.

The first port of call should be your G.P. practice – ask to be referred to a social prescriber, in some areas they are called community connectors or living well connectors. All GP services in Norfolk are connected to a team of social prescribers who are themselves connected to a range of advice and help providers and they can help you find the support you need in the quickest possible way.

The Veterans’ Survey is being carried out by the Office for Veterans’ Affairs (OVA) and the Office for National Statistics (ONS). It aims to learn more about the lives of the UK Armed Forces community, veterans and their families.

Local Plan for the Broads

This is the first stage of the review of the adopted Local Plan.

This version does not include policies, but asks for your thoughts on some topic areas and potential options.

There is a call for sites for residential dwellings (Broads-wide), residential moorings (Broads-wide), residential caravans (Great Yarmouth Borough only) and Gypsy and Traveller sites (Great Yarmouth Borough only) and local green space (Broads-wide).

The consultation runs to 4pm on 9 December 2022.

Design Guide

We have produced a draft Design Guide.

The Design Guide will help anyone submitting planning applications for new development so they have a clearer idea at an early stage what is likely to be acceptable in the Broads.

It should help to ensure that it relates well to its surroundings and enhances the Broads with development that is sustainable, increases biodiversity, improves accessibility and contributes to the local area.
